Often people come in to buy a new bed because they are uncomfortable in their old bed and are in pain. Many people suffer from back and/or joint pain and we all know that what you sleep on can either help heal this pain or make it worse. We have had customers come in and ask us about what beds are best for their aching backs and are looking for some relief.
My husband, Nick, has a terrible back pain and was in dire need of help. Of course he already knew a new beds was not going to fix it :). He was looking for holistic pain relief and found himself looking for a chiropractor. After talking with family and people in the area we found Dr. Murray’s practice, Lake Country Health Center. Dr. Murray put Nick on a therapy plan and sent him to a pain management doctor as well. Since his time with Dr. Murray he has been able to manage his back pain. Dr. Murray has treated Nick’s grandparents, treats his father and I even went to see Dr. Stadler with whiplash pain after a car accident. They really treat the whole body and will make recommendations that involve more than chiropractic care. Nick really loved seeing the office’s acupuncturist, too bad it is not covered by insurance because he would be there weekly.
Since developing a relationship with the lovely people at Lake Country Health Center, I reached out to Dr. Murray to get his expert opinion on beds and asked him many of the same questions people ask me when purchasing a new bed. I hope you find this information helpful and when you are looking for more than a new bed relieve your pain, please consider giving Lake Country Health Center a visit. I have included their website and contact information at the end of the interview.
1. What is your background?
Twenty-three years of clinical experience treating musculoskeletal injuries. I have had extensive post-graduate education in rehabilitation and have been a consultant to industry regarding injury present and ergonomics.
2. Where did you study?
Palmer College of Chiropractic
3. How long have you had Lake Country Health Center?
I founded Lake Country Health Center, a multidisciplinary clinic in Delafield in 1996.
4. What are top factors that usually impact a person's pain?
Factor affecting pain syndromes we treat at Lake Country Health Center are: repetitive use injuries, ergonomics in the workplace, sports injuries, pain with the Activities of Daily Living, Gluten free diets, etc. Everyone has musculoskeletal issues. It’s a matter of how you treat and their prevention.
5. How important is a quality bed for your back?
In a few words… quality matters. One-third of our live are spent in bed. Sleep time is healing time. Sleep is the recovery phase of our day. Soft tissue must heal and it is best to be in the correct ergonomic position during this important phase.
6. When patients ask what to look for in a mattress, what do you share?
I get the questions of what to look for in a mattress often. I want patients to find a quality mattress at a great price. I am a fan of a quality innerspring and/or foam mattress. The technology has improved and you should be able to find a mattress that accommodates your ergonomic needs.
7. Does the type of sleeper you are determine the type of bed your should have? (i.e. a side sleeper should have a softer bed)
Sleep position should be on your side with a pillow between your legs or on your back. Your mattress must support your spine in a neutral position. A pillow top is a nice addition when you like the feel of a softer bed.
8. Is there a type of bed you recommend for adults? teens? young children?
A quality mattress is important for teens, young children, and especially adults. I have gotten to know the good people and the quality mattresses at Lake Country Bed Barn and highly recommend this product at a great price. Check out their story.
